Grief Workshops for Teams, Groups, and Individuals
A safe space to process loss — book a workshop for your organization, or join as an individual or small group.
An OMDB grief workshop is a facilitated session — for organizations, or for individuals and small groups — built to give people real space to process loss, whether it's their own or someone else's. Sessions combine short input with real group discussion and are led by facilitators trained specifically in grief work, not generic wellness trainers.
Two audiences
For your team
Grief doesn't wait for a convenient time, and it rarely stays contained to whoever's directly affected. A corporate grief workshop gives your team practical language and shared space to process a loss together — after the death of a colleague, a major organizational change, or simply because the topic has been overdue for a while. Delivered on-site or virtually, scoped to your team's size and situation.
For yourself, or a small group
Some workshops aren't tied to an organization at all — they're for anyone who wants a facilitated space to process a specific loss, or to learn how to better support someone else through theirs. Smaller groups, more personal pacing, the same facilitation quality as our corporate work.
What a workshop actually involves
"Safe space" gets used a lot in this field, often without saying what it actually means. In an OMDB workshop, concretely, it means: what's shared in the room stays in the room, nobody is required to share anything they don't want to, the pace is set by the group rather than a fixed script, and a trained facilitator is actively managing the room — not just present, but watching for what the group needs moment to moment.
Structurally, most sessions combine a short amount of input — a concept, a framework, something to think with — followed by real group discussion. That's a deliberate choice: a workshop that's all lecture doesn't give people anywhere to put what comes up, and a workshop that's all open discussion with no structure can leave people without any language for what they're feeling.
Why this helps with more than death
Our focus is death — Patrick's and Cori's training, certifications, and years of facilitation are built specifically around confronting mortality directly. We're not generalist "loss and change" consultants, and we don't claim to be.
But the capacity built by doing that work generalizes further than you'd expect. Once you've built the ability to sit with the biggest loss there is, the smaller-but-still-real losses — a job ending, a major life change, the end of a relationship, a role that's gone — get easier to navigate too. Some people come to a workshop because of a death. Others come because they're going through something that feels like a loss even though no one died, and find the same tools apply.
Common starting points
Every workshop is built around what your group actually needs, not a fixed curriculum. Starting points we come back to often:
- Processing a specific, recent loss
- Supporting a grieving colleague or friend well, without saying the wrong thing
- Anticipatory grief — when someone you love is dying, but hasn't yet
- What actually helps in the first weeks after a loss, versus what doesn't
- A major change or ending that feels like a loss, even without a death involved

Frequently asked questions
Do you only work with loss from death, or other kinds of loss too?
Our expertise and training are specifically in death, dying, and bereavement — that's where the certifications and years of facilitation actually are. But the capacity to sit with loss, once built through that work, applies more broadly. Many people find that what they learn about navigating death also helps with other significant losses — a job change, the end of a relationship, a major life transition.
What actually happens in an OMDB grief workshop?
Sessions combine brief facilitator-led input with real group discussion. Nothing is scripted rigidly — the facilitator adapts to what the group needs, while keeping enough structure that people leave with something concrete, not just an open conversation.
How is a workshop different from grief therapy or counseling?
A workshop is education and facilitation, not clinical treatment. It's a space to process and learn, led by a trained facilitator — not a substitute for therapy with a licensed professional, though many participants find the two complementary.
How is a workshop different from Beyond Fear?
A workshop is typically a single session, tied to a specific need — a team, an event, a particular kind of loss. Beyond Fear is a 12-week program for anyone ready to work on their broader relationship with mortality, not just one loss or one session.
Can we book a private workshop just for our team?
Yes — corporate workshops are scoped to your organization specifically, delivered on-site or virtually, and shaped around what your team is actually facing.
What topics does a workshop cover?
It depends on what your group needs — see "Common starting points" above. We scope the content in an initial conversation rather than delivering a fixed, one-size-fits-all session.
