About OMDB

OverMyDeadBody (OMDB) is a grief education and death literacy agency based in Berlin, founded in 2020 by psychologist Cori Moore and end-of-life companion Patrick Liebl. We run workshops, trainings, and a 12-week program for individuals, teams, and organizations who want to talk about death, loss, and grief honestly.

How OMDB started

OMDB began as a community initiative in 2020 — a virtual space where people could talk about grief, death, and loss with no particular agenda beyond the conversation itself. We were surprised by what happened next: strangers who'd met only online kept forming real, candid bonds around a topic most of them had never said out loud before.

That's still the core of what we do. We've since broadened into workplace trainings, consulting, and the Beyond Fear program, but the starting premise hasn't changed: given the right space, people talk about death more openly than you'd expect, and something real happens when they do.

Our mission

Grief, loss, and death remain one of the biggest taboos in our culture. They affect everyone, yet we rarely get real opportunities to talk about them openly — especially at work, where they're often treated as something private, to be handled quietly and alone.

That silence has a cost. The fear of saying the wrong thing, or of feeling too much in front of someone else, keeps most of us from naming what's actually happening. And in avoiding it, we miss the thing that actually helps: talking about grief, loss, and death openly enough to let the feelings move, instead of staying stuck.

Providing spaces where that can happen is our mission. We believe facing death honestly is what lets us meet life — and each other — with more courage, not less.

Frequently asked questions

Is OMDB a therapy service?

+

No. OMDB provides grief education and facilitation, not clinical therapy or counseling. Our workshops, trainings, and the Beyond Fear program create structured spaces for talking about death and grief — they're not a substitute for mental health treatment, and we'll help you find that support if you need it.

What does "death literacy" mean?

+

Death literacy is the knowledge, comfort, and practical skill needed to talk about, prepare for, and support others through death, dying, and grief — the same way health literacy means being able to navigate your own healthcare. It includes being able to draw on a support network and talk about death openly instead of avoiding it. Most of us never get taught it. OMDB exists to close that gap.

Is OMDB religious or spiritual?

+

No. OMDB is secular. We draw on ideas from psychology, narrative work, and contemplative practice, but we don't require or teach any particular belief system. What we offer is a space to think and feel this through in your own terms.

Does OMDB work outside Berlin?

+

We're based in Berlin, and Beyond Fear is a fully online program open to anyone regardless of location. Workshops, trainings, and consulting are generally offered both in person and online as well, so being outside Berlin isn't a barrier to working with us.
